Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers to help you evaluate if we are the right fit for your project.
We move fast. MVPs can hit production in weeks, not months. Larger modernization efforts are scoped into incremental milestones so you see progress continuously. We start building quickly after a brief discovery phase—no months of planning before code gets written. Timelines depend on scope, but we optimize for speed without sacrificing quality.
We offer three engagement models: (1) Fixed-price for well-defined scopes with clear requirements, (2) Time-and-materials for exploratory or evolving projects, and (3) Retainer for ongoing support and maintenance. All engagements include a paid discovery phase to properly scope the work before committing to pricing. We provide detailed breakdowns so you understand exactly what you are paying for.
Absolutely. We understand cloud billing inside and out. We audit your infrastructure to identify waste, right-size resources, and implement cost-effective patterns like serverless, spot instances, and reserved capacity. Most clients see significant savings within the first month. We can also set up cost monitoring and alerts to prevent surprise bills.
This is increasingly common and we specialize in it. Rapid prototyping and AI-generated code often creates technical debt that becomes painful at scale. We audit your codebase, identify architectural issues, add proper testing, refactor problem areas, and get you to a maintainable state—without throwing everything away and starting over.
We are actively pursuing government contracts and building our capabilities in this space. Our engineering practices follow security-first principles that align with federal requirements. We build systems with compliance in mind from day one, making them well-suited for regulated environments. If you have a government project, we would love to discuss how we can support it.
Security is integrated into our development process, not added afterward. Every project includes threat modeling, secure code review, vulnerability scanning, and appropriate compliance documentation. We design systems to meet industry standards like SOC 2, HIPAA, and GDPR, building in the controls and documentation needed for compliance from the start.
After signing, we begin with a 1-2 week paid discovery phase. This includes stakeholder interviews, technical assessment, and detailed scope documentation. You will meet your dedicated team, establish communication channels, and align on sprint cadence. By the end of discovery, you will have a clear project plan with milestones and deliverables.
You do. All custom code, documentation, and deliverables become your property upon payment. We may use open-source components and our internal tools/frameworks, which remain ours, but the application we build for you is yours. This is explicitly stated in our contracts. We do not hold your code hostage.
Absolutely. We often embed with client engineering teams, especially for modernization projects where knowledge transfer is critical. We adapt to your existing workflows, tools, and processes. Many clients use us to augment capacity during critical phases or to bring specialized expertise their team does not have.
Every project concludes with a comprehensive handoff including documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer sessions. We offer optional ongoing support packages with SLA-backed response times. Many clients transition to a maintenance retainer for continued support, security updates, and minor enhancements.
We specialize in AWS with experience across Azure and GCP. Our stack includes React, Node.js, TypeScript, Go, and Python for application development. We build with serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions), containers (ECS, Kubernetes), and data systems (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis). We prioritize cost-effective solutions—choosing the right tool for your constraints and budget, not what is trendy.
You will have a dedicated point of contact throughout the engagement. We adapt to your preferred communication tools and cadence—whether that is Slack, email, or regular calls. We keep you informed with progress updates and are responsive when questions come up. You will always know what is happening with your project.
We're based in Reston, Virginia, and happy to meet in person with clients across the Northern Virginia / DC metro area. That said, most of our engagements are fully remote—our process, tooling, and communication cadence are built for distributed teams, so location isn't a barrier either way.
